The legendary and influential band Mandrill put on a Christmas concert tonight at the El Ray in Los Angeles using my transcriptions and sheet music.

Ernest Borgnine

I am the orchestrator for a feature film starring Ernest Borgnine titled The Man Who Shook the Hand of Vicente Fernandez. Ernest is a living ledgend in film and television. He's 94 years old, full of energy, and still going strong. He's truly inspiring.

December 4, 2011 - Free Holiday Concert
Today I'm playing in a free Christmas vocal concert by the Motif Ensemble, playing piano accompaniment for a choir and soloists. The concert is at 3pm in Glendale, more info on their website.

November 22, 2011 - Recently completed projects
I recently completed the music preparation of a book of piano music by New York based composer Francis Wapen, some transcriptions and arrangements for the artist Bleu, and some preparatory work for a piece that will be played by the NDR Big Band in Germany.

November 1, 2011 - Celebrating 5 years with Blue Shield of California
I wrote some music for a Blue Shield of California commercial five years ago, and Blue Shield has been using my music continuously ever since. There have been dozens of commercial spots that used my music, but here are some of my favorites:

October 31, 2011 - Bugbaby wins Audience Choice
At the New Orleans Horror Film Festival our film Bugbaby has won another award, this time for Audience Choice. It has been a good year for Bugbaby and there is consistent buzz about my music everywhere it's played. Here are the festivals and awards to date:

Power pop artist Bleu October 20, 2011 - ZMX signs Bleu
Power pop artist Bleu is the latest addition to our roster at ZMX Music. His strong melodies, alternate guitar tunings, and string quartet arrangements will all be available as sheet music soon, and as always they will be 100% artist approved.

October 18, 2011 - Another opera score complete
I am the music copyist for another opera score by Stewart Copeland based on an Edgar Alan Poe story, this time The Cask of Amontillado. I also prepared the manuscripts for his opera of The Tell Tale Heart, which was performed by the Royal Opera of London earlier this year. The two will be bundled together for performances in the future.

The album for Roman & Alaina is nearly finished and we're giving a pre-release concert at a Sukkot celebration. 7pm in Hollywood, all are welcome.

Sept 24-25, 2011 - Shows in New York
I reassumed my position as keyboard player in Christafari for just a couple of shows in New York. We played a couple shows at the Band of Brothers Boot Camp close to Syracuse, NY.

August 15, 2011 - Bugbaby accepted to 4 more festivals
Rebecca Doppelt's film Bugbaby (with my film score) has been accepted to four more film festivals, three of them in one day! They are the Atlanta Horror Film Festial (September), the Atlanta Shorts Fest (September), the Maryland International Film Festival (October), and the Williamsburg, Brooklyn Independent Film Festival (November).

August 5, 2011 - Orchestral sessions complete
Today was the last day of our orchestral sessions for Mark Abel's Dream Gallery, a classical album project that will be released early next year. I am co-producing the project with Mark, and I also played the piano and did the score preparation.

Today I was recording here for composer and orchestrator Aaron Stanley again. The session was winds and brass, the last of the instrumental layers for his latest project. They are all great players if you need them.

We recently signed Josh Kelley to ZMX. The first drafts of his sheet music are now in his hands, and the sheet music will be ready in time for his tour with Taylor Swift.

June 26, 2011 - Concert in Glendale
I am the accompanist for a show by the Motif Ensemble. The concert is all vocal music, a variety of opera, musical theatre, and celtic songs. 3pm at First Baptist Church of Glendale.

June 22, 2011 - Playing for Mark Abel
Today I had an epic 13 hour recording session playing piano for Mark Abel's project entitled The Dream Gallery, an orchestral album project that I am also co-producing with him. I managed to record and fully edit the piano for the entire 70 minute album, and as usual my 1906 Baldwin grand sounds wonderful.

June 18, 2011 - ZMX signs Tegan and Sara
I have just finished transcribing and engraving a batch of 25 arrangements for Tegan and Sara, the most recent artists to join my publishing company ZMX. I'll be working with the girls to get them perfect and they will be available soon.

L'Imbroglio nel Lenzuolo June 13, 2011 - L'Imbroglio on Sky TV
L'Imbroglio nel Lenzuolo, an Italian film I orchestrated for composer Ruy Folguera, is now available on Sky TV in Italy both in normal programming and on-demand.

There's nothing like the sound of a Wurlitzer! June 6, 2011 - Playing for Roman&Alaina
The last couple of days I've been recording keys for Roman&Alaina playing Wurlitzer, Hammond, and my beautiful 1906 Baldwin grand piano. Produced by Drew Allsbrook at The People's Music, Roman's album is going to sound fantastic. Additional recordings were in my studio and at Sound Asylum.

May 22, 2011 - Mark Abel manuscript completed
San Diego composer Mark Abel wrote a 70 minute portrait of California in seven acts for orchestra and soloists entitled The Dream Gallery. I'm his music copyist and have been assisting him with orchestration, and as of today the nearly 700 pages of sheet music are finished. I'm also his associate producer for the recordings, which are already underway.

May 11, 2011 - Magic Hourglass score complete
The film score for Magic Hourglass is complete! It was mixed by John Rodd and sounds fantastic. If you are a film composer you should try to work with him. Check out the first three samples on my Demos page to hear it.

April 30, 2011 - Magic Hourglass session
The recording of the film score for Magic Hourglass was a success! I recorded the music over several days, and these wonderful players came in for the last day. Directing players is always a composer's favorite part of the process, and director Robert Rollins was able to sit in with us too. The musicians in Los Angeles are the best.

ZMX signed the band Julian Drive, and we're very glad to have them on board. As Master Engraver for ZMX I'll be supervising the transcribing and arranging of sheet music for them.

April 10, 2011 - Tell Tale Heart reviews
I did the score editing and music preparation for Stewart Copeland's opera The Tell Tale Heart, which is now published by G. Schirmer and playing at the Royal Opera of London for the coming week. The first couple of reviews are out, and it's being received very well.

Today I completed another big music engraving project for New York composer Francis Wapen. This was my fourth large music preparation project for him, and our page count continues to climb.

Bugbaby Phoenix Win April 2, 2011 - Bugbaby Festival Win
Rebecca Doppelt's film Bugbaby won Best Horror Short at the Phoenix Film Festival! The film was very well received and my music got a lot of mention.

Nada Surf March 23, 2011 - ZMX signs Nada Surf
My publishing company ZMX Music has signed the band Nada Surf, so I am now transcribing and arranging their songs and creating sheet music for them.

An article I wrote was just published by the Society of Composers and Lyricists. With insight drawn from more than 75 composer interviews, I addressed the issue of finding a balanced lifestyle in the music industry. It's not an easy task, nor an easy topic to write about!

February 20, 2011 - Scoring The Magic Hourglass
My film scoring process has begun for Robert Rollins' film The Magic Hourglass. Because we're long time collaborators and he likes to involve the composer very early on, this score is proving to be an easy nut to crack.

Jan 20, 2011 - Stewart Copeland and the Royal Opera of London
Another collaboration with Stewart Copeland is now complete. I was the score editor and music engraver for his opera Tell Tale Heart, which will play in the Royal Opera of London's spring series Operashots.
