We had a preliminary screening of Rebecca Doppelt’s documentary Take A Bow in Chicago today at Colombia College. The film was a success and it is very close to finished. Although it was not intended to be the focal point, my film score got lots of attention from the audience.
Logo music for Robert Rollins Pictures
Today my music was chosen to be a part of the logo branding for a film production company called Robert Rollins Pictures. Branding is a big thing and a long-term commitment, so I’m honored to be the sonic voice of the company.
Pumpkin Hollow film score finished
The music mix of the score for Robert Rollins’ film Pumpkin Hollow is complete. I composed this one in just a couple of weeks, so it was busy but fun. Robert has been very enthusiastic about my music the entire time, and this was probably the most effortless collaboration I’ve ever had with a director. Everything just fit.
New main title for Ozzie and Harriet
The 50’s TV show “Ozzie and Harriet” will soon be re-released on DVD, and I wrote new music for the main title and end title. Since many of the episodes are online already, we’re replacing the theme music to make it easy to track and combat online piracy of the new remastered release. I produced the recording session 50’s style with lots of open mics, everybody in one room playing together, and I even recorded with reel-to-reel tape.
Film score for Good Magazine web series
Today I delivered my film score for the Los Angeles based Good Magazine web video “Al Jazeera English.” The film is directed by Iris Ichishita, and addresses the difficulties and unfair biases the non-western news station has faced in the US since September 11.
Colin Hay live tour
Colin Hay from the band Men At Work has a live tour with orchestra coming up. Composer Ruy Folguera is doing the majority of the orchestration, and I’m doing additional orchestrations and the music copyist work.
The Razor soundtrack complete
The music for Ryosuke Kawanaka’s film “The Razor” is finished. It was an old time experience with moody jazz recorded to analog reel-to-reel tape. The story is largely internal so the music played a pivotal role in this film, something all composers relish. It has already been accepted to the LA Shorts Fest and will screen there in the fall.
Score complete for Maytal Gilboa film
My film score for Maytal Gilboa’s film Tommy And Lucy is finished. The main character is a small lost child, so we used a fairly small orchestra for the score. I mixed and mastered the music in my Torrance studio. Maytal is the manager and producer of Emet Entertainment, which focuses in part on empowering female creators and storytellers in comics.
Screening of Iris Ichishita film at Evening of Arts & Entertainment
Iris Ichishita’s film Homeless Karaoke was shown today at the annual Evening of Arts & Entertainment. I composed the score as part of the PBS International Documentary Challenge, and it was initially premiered both on PBS and in the Hot Docs festival in Toronto. Iris is a contributor to many web videos and series by Good Magazine.
