I got good news upon arriving home yesterday from our amazing tour in the South Pacific. First, the album we were touring made it to #3 on the Billboard reggae charts while we were out. Second, Magic Hourglass (one of the many films I have scored for Robert Rollins) had a very successful screening at the West Coast Film Festival 5 days ago. Third, Hourglass will have another screening at the OC Film Fiesta some time next week. What a great welcome home!
Magic Hourglass screenings
There are a handful of new screenings for The Magic Hourglass coming up:
Beginning August 19 you can catch it at The West Coast Film Festival at the Regency theatres in San Juan Capistrano. Beginning of September 1 it will be playing at the Orange County Film Festival.
I was the film composer and orchestrator for the film, and the film score continues to impress audiences everywhere it’s played. I’m very proud of this one!
Composer’s salon performance in Venice
Today I will give world premieres of some contemporary classical pieces for piano and voice at a composer’s salon in Venice Beach. Hosted by Kubilay Üner, the event is a European style salon in which composers can present and discuss the creation of music. The songs are new works by composer Mark Abel, with whom I produced the album Dream Gallery.
Android western-themed commercial
If you like westerns, caricatures, and creative advertising then check out my latest commercial on YouTube! It’s a spot for an Android phone directed by Rebecca Lorenne Doppelt, and it was a really fun little project to work on.
Bugbaby plays in more festivals
Bugbaby, the horror short that I scored in the summer of 2010, is turning out to be the little film that could. It continues to get festival screenings and attention, most recently tonight at the Hollywood Fringe Festival here in Los Angeles.
Fortunes Fools production begins
Fortune’s Fools, my sixth film with director Robert Rollins has begun production. I was on set today to meet the actors and hear Bob’s direction, because it’s enormously helpful to my composing process and gives me a little head start. It will be part of a larger package of movies called Dream Country, and I scored all of the films in it.
Magic Hourglass wins a Telly Award
I’m proud to announce that The Magic Hourglass won a Telly Award. This is the second Telly I have received in a collaboration with director Robert Rollins, and I look forward to scoring his feature film Dream Country later this year.
Nice day for press
This morning I was presented with two nice surprises. First, the Berklee College of Music Berklee Blogs did a really nice feature about me. Second, Dream Gallery made it to Amazon’s Hot New Releases list. Not a bad way to start the day!
I’m also beginning some work for another show with Stewart Copeland and D’Drum, this time at the Royal College of Music in London. What a great day!
Dan Spurgeon interview
Dan Spurgeon, the writer of Bugbaby which I scored last year, has a nice feature in Disarray Magazine in which he is interviewed about the film. It has played in about 15 festivals so far and we expect another good run this Halloween. Bugbaby was produced by The Visceral Company.
