Today I completed yet another big music engraving project for New York composer Francis Wapen, a Reverend at a church in Taberg, NY. I have been engraving his sheet music for years, and this project was a Catholic Mass. He’s a very prolific composer, and our page count continues to climb consistently. He has beautifully stylized handwriting to match his traditional music, and he’s a pleasure to work with.
Bugbaby Festival Win
Rebecca Doppelt’s film Bugbaby which I scored won Best Horror Short at the Phoenix Film Festival! The film was very well received and my music got a lot of mention during the forums afterwards.
A Question Of Balance – article in The Score
An article I wrote was just published by the Society of Composers and Lyricists in their quarterly journal The Score. With insight drawn from more than 75 composer interviews, I addressed the issue of finding a balanced lifestyle in the music industry. It’s not an easy task, nor an easy topic to write about! It’s an honor to be published by such a reputable organization.
Scoring The Magic Hourglass
My film scoring process has begun for Robert Rollins’ film The Magic Hourglass. Because we’re longtime collaborators and he likes to involve the composer very early on, this score is proving to be an easy nut to crack. I was involved in this film as early as the script writing and budgeting processes, so now that it’s time to write the music for the film it feels like an old friend and not a new project. Working with Robert is a rewarding and deep collaborative process.
Composing score for “Hit The Lights”
I am just beginning to write a new film score for a film by director David Helman entitled “Hit The Lights” about a future earth so polluted that nobody has seen stars in 2 generations. The film score will be acoustic but ethereal.
On the set of Magic Hourglass
I was on set today with director Robert Rollins for our next project “The Magic Hourglass”, a fantasy/adventure film. I will start composing the film score in early 2011.

Interview by John Presley
Future Composer.com is a great website and blog dedicated to articles and interviews about our composer life. I was recently interviewed for it by musician and writer John Presley, and the interview was published today.
San Diego Children’s Film Festival
“Every Other Week” is a wonderful short children’s film by director Genevieve McCarty which I scored. The film just had a very successful screening at the San Diego International Kid’s Film Festival. We had a Q&A afterwards, and it was a unique chance for the kids to talk to a film composer. They were fascinated with the idea of composing music specifically to tell stories in film.
