I am beginning work on a 100 page manuscript for New York composer Francis Wapen. He has written a Catholic mass for Saint Joan of Arc and I am doing the sheet music preparation. Mr. Wapen is a prolific composer, and I have done his music engraving for 9 or 10 big projects now.
Dream Gallery gets nice reviews and videos
Our orchestral album Dream Gallery got a nice review from All Music that describes the album both briefly and well. There is also a new series of composer commentary videos on YouTube. The introduction gives an overview of the album. Dream Gallery is on the Delos Music label.
Outstanding Achievement Award
Film legend Ernest Borgnine won the Outstanding Achievement Award from The Newport Beach Film Festival after sold-out screenings of The Man Who Shook the Hand of Vicente Fernandez. I orchestrated the film for composer Ruy Folguera, and it will be released later this year.
Nice day for press
This morning I was presented with two nice surprises. First, the Berklee College of Music Berklee Blogs did a really nice feature about me. Second, Dream Gallery made it to Amazon’s Hot New Releases list. Not a bad way to start the day!
I’m also beginning some work for another show with Stewart Copeland and D’Drum, this time at the Royal College of Music in London. What a great day!
New Tegan and Sara sheet music
ZMX Music has released a dozen new arrangements for Tegan and Sara for some of their more popular songs. The entire Tegan and Sara songbook is available on their website, all of it transcribed and arranged by myself.
Dream Gallery Physical Release
The physical release of Dream Gallery is today, and the album is still on sale for HALF PRICE through iTunes for the rest of this month. Buy it before the price doubles!
It’s 70 minutes of classical/rock full orchestra art songs, nothing like anything you have in your collection. Check it out on iTunes, Amazon, our label Delos, Arkiv Music, Classics Online, or a store near you.
Another nice album review by John J. Puccio is available on Classical Candor.
Introduction to Arabic Music
Bana Haffar, author and bass player for So & So, released a book today titled An Introduction to Arabic Music and the Maqams. With musical examples engraved by myself, it explains the basics of microtonal music, traditional instruments, and improvisation. Digital downloads are available now and the physical book will be available through ADG Publishing in the summer.
Brian Ralston scoring session
Composer Brian Ralston had his scoring session today for Crooked Arrows, his latest feature film, and I prepared the sheet music for his recording session. It’s a story centered on a Native American lacrosse team making its way through a prep school league tournament.
