A great singer songwriter named Lillian Borunda and I spent the last few days cowriting some new songs and recording demos. She used to be a student of mine when I was a choir director in Davis, CA. She’s been through the program at the Berklee College of Music now, and she’s on her way back to New York with the new songs where she’ll be hitting the clubs.
Film shoot in my studio
My recording studio was used as a location today for a film by director Spencer Price. The film is called Trystan and it’s a completely slow-motion art film. The scenes in my studio were of a piano teacher and his student having their lessons.
Working with Lalo Schifrin on Rush Hour III
Over the last few days I made some mockups of Lalo Schifrin’s new score for Rush Hour III which stars Jackie Chan. Lalo is an old school composer and he still prefers to write with pencil and paper, so I was part of the team led by Ruy Folguera which prepared realistic mockups for the director to hear and comment on. It’s a real treat to work so closely with such a legend of film music.
New main title for Ozzie and Harriet
The 50’s TV show “Ozzie and Harriet” will soon be re-released on DVD, and I wrote new music for the main title and end title. Since many of the episodes are online already, we’re replacing the theme music to make it easy to track and combat online piracy of the new remastered release. I produced the recording session 50’s style with lots of open mics, everybody in one room playing together, and I even recorded with reel-to-reel tape.
Mixing audio for Adam Biggs film
Director Adam Biggs created a short film called Two People. Instead of writing the music for this film, I was the sound designer and audio mix engineer. We finished the final dub today, it sounds great, and he’ll be submitting it to festivals soon.
Recording orchestra at Fox for The Air I Breathe
Today we had orchestral recording sessions with composer Marcelo Zarvos, recording his film score for The Air I Breathe. We used a 50-piece string orchestra at the famous Fox Studios Newmann stage. I was assistant music editor on this project, helping editor Josh Winget, who is the head of 2 Pop Music. The film will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival next April. The film stars Sarah Michelle Gellar and was written and directed by filmmaker Jieho Lee.
